When there is a military funeral, they usually do a gun salute and the rifle casings are given to the family members. These creations are made with those special rifle casings. Most of the time these casings will sit in a drawer, significant yet non- functional.
One casing was given to me by someone that attended a funeral for a young fallen soldier. I did not know the young man or his family. This is one of those instances where I just felt led to bless his Mother with some kind of creation, encorpoating that casing, to honor her sons life that he gave for our freedom. After much thought and prayer I was pleased with how the creation evolved into a unique necklace bearing that rifle casing as the focal point. I presented it to her and her husband as a small token of thanks for her Sons sacrifice, and left feeling very humbled by the experience. A confirmation and reminder of why I do what I do.
Another casing was from the owner of a family floral business. The daughter had the rifle casing from the military funeral for her Dad, and wondered if it could be made into something functionl. With the floral business she worked at every day , I decided to make a broach for her apron that looked like a flower . My client now has a unique, yet functional creation, that has encased within it, the casing that is symbolic of the tribute the Military gave her Dad.
