A Child’s Crib

9 New creations made by re-purposing the wood from a family crib. The Mother had just given the crib to her son to pass it down to the next generation. The son actually had no idea what to do with it as its functionality was no longer what it once was. It was actually still siting in the trunk of his vehicle when he was talking with my husband who was explaining the concept of what I do to preserve memories. He went to his trunk and got the crib and handed it to my husband right then and there.!

He and his brother had both slept in the crib. He commissioned me to create gifts not only for his Mother but also for his Father, brother, wife, grandmother and two sons so that they could each have a piece of the family crib. The family loves to be by the water so to personalize the creations even more, I incorporated  beach glass from Lake Erie where they spent their summers.

The Mother expressed how special it was to have a piece of the crib her sons had slept in, be a part of her everyday life as she wore the necklace close to her heart.

Think outside of the usual when thinking what can be done with a family heirloom that is no longer functional. Preserve those memories by re-purposing the wood into new creations (even jewelry) that everyone in the family can cherish.
